Getting started

Findel replaces your storefront search with one that understands sentences. A shopper can type "crib that converts to a toddler bed under $500" and get products rather than a keyword match, or ask a question and get an answer from your pages.

1. Install and choose a plan

Install Findel from the Shopify App Store. The app opens in your Shopify admin on the Plan page: until a plan is chosen, that is the only page it shows.

  • Starter, Growth and Pro begin with a 14-day free trial that includes 500 AI searches. Nothing is charged until the trial ends.
  • Every plan is chosen on Shopify's billing page, and charges appear on your Shopify invoice. You can change or cancel at any time.
  • Plans and what they include are compared on the pricing section of the home page.

2. Let the catalogue copy itself

Your catalogue is not something you set up. When you choose a plan, Findel starts copying your products, collections, pages, blog articles and store policies, and keeps products up to date from then on.

  • You can watch the sync, or run it again, under Sources → Catalog.
  • A first sync of a large catalogue takes minutes, not seconds: most of it is the AI reading your products once so they can be searched by attribute afterwards. It keeps going if you close the page.
  • New and changed products arrive in real time. Shopify sends no change events for pages, policies or blog articles, so after editing those, run Sync everything.

3. The three setup steps

The setup guide on the app's Home page walks through these in order, and its Need help? link opens the step you are on. Each step ticks itself when the app can see it is done.

After setup

Home's setup guide is followed by a short list of what is worth doing next:

  • Make the pop-up yours: collections, featured products, pages and example searches shown before anyone types.
  • Set up your search results page: layout, filters and product cards.
  • Bring over your store's filters: import the filters you already have in Shopify Search & Discovery.

If something isn't working

  • Search disappeared after changing themes. Placements live in the theme, so a newly published theme starts without them. Your settings are intact; repeat the setup steps on the new theme.
  • A shopper asks a question and gets products. An answer is given only when one of your own documents covers the question: a policy, a page or an FAQ entry. Add the FAQ entry under Sources → Answers.
  • Searches stopped being understood mid-month. The plan's AI searches for the month are used up. Search keeps working as keyword and semantic search until the month resets.
