Put search on your storefront

There are three ways, and you only need one. The recommended one leaves your theme's own search icon and box exactly where they are and opens Findel's search when a shopper uses them. A search bar sits in a section of a page; a search icon goes in your header.

This step needs the app embed from step 1 to be on.

Recommended: use your theme's own search

  1. In the Findel app, open Home.
  2. In the setup guide, press Use my theme's search.

Nothing in your theme changes, and the step ticks at once. From then on, your theme's search icon and search box open Findel's pop-up. This works on every supported theme, including ones whose header does not accept app blocks.

Other ways: a search bar or a search icon

In the setup guide, open Other ways. Each option has an Add to theme button:

  • Add a search bar: a visible search box in a section of a page.
  • Add a search icon: an icon that opens the pop-up, where your theme lets apps add to the header.

For either one:

  1. Press Add to theme. The theme editor opens with the block ready to place. In the editor these blocks are called Search Bar and Search Icon, listed with Findel under them.
  2. Drag the block to where you want it.
  3. Press Save, top right.

To add one by hand: in the theme editor's left sidebar, press Add section where you want it, open the Apps tab and pick Search Bar or Search Icon. Inside a section that accepts app blocks, such as some headers, the same two appear under Add block.

Most themes lock their header, so there may be nowhere to drop a search icon. That is what using your theme's own search is for: it needs no theme change at all and keeps your own header.

Changing it later

You can switch any of these off, or change how search is placed, in the app under Settings → Storefront. That page checks the theme you have published right now and names anything that is missing.
