Privacy policy
Findel is a search app for Shopify stores. This policy explains what data Findel handles when a merchant installs it and when shoppers use search on that merchant's store, why, where it is kept and for how long.
1. Who we are
Findel is made by Dewoid, a sole trader registered in Serbia (the full business name is in the terms of service). In this policy "we" and "us" mean Dewoid.
Contact for anything in this policy: support@findel.ai.
2. Our role
- Shoppers' data. When shoppers search or browse a store that uses Findel, we process their data on behalf of that store. The merchant decides to use Findel and is the controller; we are the processor. Our commitments to merchants are in the data processing agreement.
- Merchants' data. For the details of the merchant and their account with us, we are the controller.
3. Data we receive from merchants
When a merchant installs Findel, Shopify gives the app access to the store data the merchant approves.
- Store and account details: the store's domain and name, its contact email addresses, and its plan and subscription status.
- Store content: the catalogue, pages, blog articles, store policies and the FAQ entries a merchant writes in the app.
- Settings the merchant chooses in the app.
- Support messages sent to us, and the email address given for our reply.
- Earlier search history: where the store allows it, daily counts of the searches made in the store's own Shopify search. This contains no shopper identities.
4. Data about shoppers
When a shopper uses search on a store that has Findel installed, we receive:
- Searches: the text the shopper typed, the time and what search showed.
- Clicks on search results.
- Store activity: products viewed, added to the cart and bought, with the order number of a completed checkout. The Findel web pixel receives these only for shoppers whose consent settings allow analytics.
- An anonymous session id: see cookies below.
- Technical data: IP address and browser type, in server logs.
Findel does not receive shoppers' names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses or payment details.
5. Cookies and browser storage on stores
is_sid: a random id in a first-party cookie, kept for 30 days. It connects one browser's searches, clicks and store activity, for search analytics, purchase attribution and, on plans that include it, personalised ranking. It is set only when the shopper's consent settings allow analytics, and deleted when that consent is withdrawn. Search works without it.is_embed: a cookie with the value1, kept for one day, that tells Findel it is switched on in the store's theme. It holds no identifier.- Cart: when a shopper clicks a search result, the search is saved on the shopper's cart, so the merchant sees it with the order.
- Browser storage: the shopper's recent searches are kept on their own device to show them again.
This website, findel.ai, sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Findel does not respond to browsers' Do Not Track signals; on stores it follows the shopper's choices in the store's cookie consent settings.
6. How we use the data
- To provide search for the store, including answers from the store's own content and, on plans that include it, personalised ranking.
- To show the merchant search analytics and suggestions.
- To provide support, bill through Shopify and send the merchant emails about their installation.
- To keep the service secure and working.
We use each store's data only for that store. We do not sell personal data, do not share it for advertising, do not build profiles of shoppers across stores, and do not use it to train AI models.
7. Legal bases
For merchants' data: our contract with the merchant, our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working, and our legal obligations. For shoppers' data we act on the merchant's behalf, and the merchant decides the legal basis.
8. Who we share data with
- Service providers that host the service, store its backups, provide AI processing and deliver email for us. They process the data only on our instructions, under data processing agreements.
- Shopify, the platform Findel runs on. Data passes through Shopify under Shopify's own privacy policy.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
9. Where data is kept
Findel's servers are in the EU. Dewoid is in Serbia, and some of our service providers, including backup storage and AI processing, may process data in the USA. Transfers of data from the EU are covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or, where the recipient is certified, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
10. How long we keep it
- Shopper data: 25 months, then deleted.
- Merchant data and settings: while the app is installed. Shopify asks us to delete a store's data 48 hours after the merchant uninstalls Findel, and we then delete everything we hold for that store, unless it has installed Findel again in the meantime.
- Backups: up to 30 days.
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
11. Security
We protect the data with appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption.
12. Your rights and choices
Shoppers. Because we process shoppers' data for the store, please contact the store first; it can pass the request to us. Shopify also forwards customers' requests to the apps a store uses: for a deletion request we delete the records linked to that customer's orders, and for a data request we send those records to the store. A shopper can stop the anonymous session id at any time by withdrawing analytics consent in the store's cookie settings or by clearing cookies.
Merchants. You can ask us to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your data, or object to how we use it, at support@findel.ai. Uninstalling Findel deletes your store's data as described above.
You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority: in Serbia, where Dewoid is established, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection; in the EU, the authority in the country where you live or work.
13. Children
Findel is a service for businesses and is not directed at children.
14. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. We tell merchants about material changes by email to the store's contact address at least 30 days before they take effect.
